Definition of Explanation Text

Explanation is a text which tells processes relating to forming of natural, social, scientific and cultural phenomena. Explanation text is to say ‘why’ and ‘how’ of the forming of the phenomena. It is often found in science, geography and history text books.

Generic Structure

– General statement
General statement; stating the phenomenon issues which are to be explained.
– Sequenced of explanation
Sequenced explanation; stating a series of steps which explain the phenomena.

Language Features of Explanation Text

In an explanation text, there are linguistic features as below :
– Using simple present tense
– Using abstract noun (no visible noun)
– Using Passive voice
– Using Action verbs
– Containing explanation of the process ..


Example

1. Proses terjadinya hujan
2. Proses terjadinya tsunami, gempa bumi
3.  Proses perubahan kepompong menjadi kupu-kupu



Setelah itu guru ppl memmberikan tugas lkpd yang isinya 3 text yaitu:
1. How Does Hurricane Happen?
2. How does the rain happen?
3. Evaporation

DESCRIPTIVE TEKS (1): LOTS OF TRASH EVERYWHERE

Identification Scattered garbage is often seen around us. Scattered garbage has a negative impact on the environment. This will interfere with human activity and cause environmental pollution. Description 1 Garbage that is scattered around us causes many bad effects if left unchecked. We often encounter it around our environment, for example in public places, in the middle of the city. A lot of garbage that is piled up is not properly disposed of. Description 2 In public places, the middle of the city we often see garbage piled up. There are plastic waste, bottles, cans, and leftover food wrappers. With the presence of such garbage the city becomes dirty and shabby which makes everyone who passes by feel disgusted. Description 3 The pile of rubbish creates a very disturbing stench. People around it must feel uncomfortable. The foul smell released also causes air pollution.
